A blog (contraction of the term ‘web log’) is a type of website usually maintained by an individual with frequent entries (blog posts) of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video, that allows readers to leave comments in an interactive format.
I have found that the easiest way to read blogs is via services called ‘RSS (Really Simple Syndication) Feed Readers‘ which are basically ‘news feeds’ that you subscribe to. There are a variety of RSS feed readers, however a good place to start is with a couple of free and easy to use web based ones such as Google Reader and Bloglines. Both have comprehensive help sections to get you up and running. The best way to learn how to use either one is to simply subscribe to some blogs and give it a go. 1. To subscribe to a blog’s feed simply click on this button (typically an orange box like the one shown here) on the blogsite, following the instructions to subscribe using the RSS feed reader of your choice.
But, if all of this RSS feed reader stuff is sounding too complicated, many blog sites also enable you to subscribe via plain old email. There is typically a subscription box to sign up for notification of blog updates.
