If you find yourself suffering from bouts of “keepin’ up with the Joneses-ness” I encourage you to bookmark this website: Global Rich List. I like to think of it as the Forbes 500 for the rest of us. Simply enter your annual income on the site and it will tabulate how rich you are compared to the rest of the world’s population, instantaneously putting things into perspective.
You will see that you are–quite literally–one of the richest people in the world!
Some other enlightening statistics:
* 1 out of every 2 people–half of the world’s population–live on less than $2.50 per day.
* 1 out of every 4 people don’t have electricity.
* The amount of money it would take to provide food, water, health, and education for those who dont have it is the same amount of money spent on cigarettes in Europe alone.
It is so easy to ‘compare up’ when we think about our own standard of living, and yet, the reality is that if you are reading this blog post I can almost guarantee that you are one of the richest people on the planet. I hope this website is a simple tool for you to use in promoting a sense of gratitude for all that you do have. I know it does for me!
Are there things that you do to help keep things like this in perspective? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the COMMENTS section below. Thanks!
